At a recent event state Senator Robert Hurt was seen promoting himself as a creator of jobs. This gentleman is running for 5th district congress as a “so called” conservative, I say so called because like so many other politicians he seems to have the mistaken idea that governments create jobs. This concept is neither conservative nor correct. If anything government has a negative effect on job creation, any true conservative knows that to generate jobs the best thing that any government can do is stay out of the way. How Hurt can say he helped create jobs is mind boggling, after all he voted for the largest increase in state taxes in the history of the Commonwealth. This in effect has had a negative result in the state and probably cost us jobs. Only in the mind of a real politician can this be looked at as a positive thing.
Another statement that Hurt made at this event was how he was proud to be a part of the great tea party movement. Coming to Tea Party events and making campaign speeches in which you misrepresent yourself does not make you a part of this group. As someone who is intimately involved with this movement I know for a fact that Senator Hurt is not someone the grass roots are all that thrilled with. He has a questionable voting record and is viewed as a moderate that is more interested in his career as a lifetime politician than representing the people, something the public has had enough of.
Hurt may be the favorite of the National Republicans and some Republican operatives in the local offices but not of the people. If the RNC does not want a repeat of what happened in New York’s 23rd district they better listen to the people.

The Democrats have spent the last 4 months saying Bob McDonnell was a far right wing candidate now they are trying to say he is a moderate. I hope the Republicans of the 5th district will take a good look at the election we just had and put forth a candidate that is a true conservative.Tom Perriello only won by a few votes if we put forth a true conservative candidate he will lose by a wide margin.
Your last sentence is correct, though not in the way you intended it to be.
Bruce maybe i worded it wrong but even you got my point.
What is a “true conservative?” The word is so widely used now (like many others) it’s losing meaning.
I believe a true conservative is a person who believes that the constitution is the supreme law of the land and is not a document that is subject to continuous interpretation to justify an agenda. A conservative is a person who believes in a limited federal government and individual rights that are guaranteed by the founding documents. A conservative is a person who supports free open market capitalism and knows that government does not grant rights but is there to protect and defend those rights.
Sounds a lot like what I call a “libertarian,” which suits me fine – it seems more folks are using those words interchangably, in a good way.
Hmmm… If he pledges to self-limit his tenure to x (not 15) terms I’ll consider him. If not, I will assume he wants to make a career of it and is therefore not the type of person I want to support.
He already is a career politician. Graduated from law school goes to work for the state, runs for local office, runs for state delegate, then state senator and now congress. Can’t get any more career than that. I think we have had enough of these types in office and don’t need any more.
This has no chance of becoming NY 23. Primary or convention. This is Hurts race.
If this is Hurt’s race then we are exactly like NY 23.
