The 5th Needs a Conservative Not a RINO

With what has taken place in Washington this past weekend it is more critical then ever to find a good conservative candidate to oppose Congressman Perriello. Tom now has a large target on his back but we can not run a Republican that has a similar target. If the party endorses a tax and spend candidate such as Robert Hurt we will have less ammunition to go after Perriello.

Hurt has voted to raise taxes, voted against parental rights, and voted for programs that did not uphold the state Constitution, how is this man different from Perriello? The only true difference is that one has a “D” behind his name and the other has an “R” behind his. When Freedom Works notices the same problems in Virginia’s 5th that occurred in NY’s 23rd you know we need to be concerned.

What needs to take place in this district that happened too late in New York is the people need to get off the couch and let the local party officials know that we want a real conservative representing us. That will be the only way to defeat Perriello in next year’s election.

The national branch of the Republican Party does not seem to realize that there are other candidates in the 5th district race however at least the Daily Progress seems to recognize that fact. In a recent article concerning the health care vote the Progress quoted several of the other candidates, Verga and Boyd. At least the local paper seems to get what the national party does not.

I have the conservative beliefs but do not believe I have the other qualities that are necessary to succeed. I believe it takes more than just being conservative to effectively represent the people. There are already several very conservative people running that I would deem are lacking in these other areas, we do not need one more like that complicating the race. I respect these people for what they are offering but we need to be very careful to nominate not only a conservative but someone who has a chance at winning and is capable of properly representing the 5th.

So we should define exactly what we are looking for:
    1 – Conservative, pro-constitutional
    2 – Experience
3 – known in the community

just trying to get the ball rolling.

Im not sure experience in politics is a good thing but thats just my opinion.Someone that could get into Perriello’s base in Charlottesville would help alot.A military career would help also.

I want someone with a good business background, to me political experience doesn’t mean much. A person who has been around the block in the business world can certainly handle dealing with politicians.

I agree, Bill. At a time when we need to stimulate the economy and get people back to work, we don’t need another career-politician or lawyer. We need someone with real business experience and savvy. Someone who understands working people and knows exactly what it takes to succeed in the business world.

With 22 different cities and counties, four TV markets, something like four daily newspapers (Cville, Danville, Martinsville, Lynchburg, and maybe you can count Roanoke and Richmond), and lots of tiny local newspapers, talking about “known in the community” is virtually meaningless. Which community? Charlottesville? Danville? Farmville?

I’d rather have someone with the energy to campaign all across the 5th District and become “known in the community.” Do you think anyone knew of Tom Perriello when he started his campaign?

Ditto. Hell, Perriello had to have a flippin commercial on how to pronounce his name for pete’s sake.

On the other hand, Bill’s point is well taken. There’s having a good head on your shoulders, skills, and that intangible element of a “votable” candidate….what the talking heads refer to as gravitas.

For good or not, it’s a real thing in our TV/Hollywood saturated generation….I doubt Lincoln would ever have gotten past a Scoutmaster role in today’s world…with all due respect to Scoutmasters of course.

I just met Mike McPadden, heck-of-a-nice guy. Mike is a Constitutional Conservative, he would use Personal Liberties if elected as his foundation of reason! His website is http://www.mcpaddenforcongress.com

Mike is like the rest of us, he can’t take anymore of what Congress is doing to our Country. Congress is the KEY! Congress writes the bills, they write the checks, the President only signs them. 2010 Clean Sweep the Congress! Vote Freedom FIRST!

Please help clear me up on a question I have. It seems that everyone running is Republican, being the major party against Democrats, I can see why.

However, come primary time, isn’t there only one candidate that comes out of that alive and placed on the ballot to represent the Republican party?
