Perriello Blames GOP, Fails to Analyze Himself

Congressmen Tom Perriello tries to lay blame on the GOP for stalling a one month extension of programs supporting laid-off workers and other more wastefully expenditures of money in the bill.  The Republicans finally have concern that the $10 billion bill would add to the budget deficit that is predicted to hit a record $1.56 trillion this year. But Tom is not worried about the spending, he’s just pandering to 2010 election voters.

Here’s Tom in his own words. “Enough is enough.  Senate Republicans must stop playing games with the economic security of American workers.” No Tom, you and your socialist friends must stop playing the games.  Your stimulus bill failed and you are burdening our nation with financial debt for generations to come.  Is cap and trade, son of stimulus, and card check good economic policy?

“These workers deserve these benefits, and now when they need them the most, Senate Republicans are holding them hostage for partisan gain.” For an entire year, Congress was controlled by the Democrats. They had every chance to do whatever they wanted and got sidetracked for 7 months trying to ram healthcare down our throats instead of cutting all manner of taxes to stimulate the economy.  Hostages?   Tom, look in the mirror.  You are the kidnapper and the US citizenry are the hostages.

“Every week the Senate fails to act on the 290 bills already passed by the House, we are losing jobs. Well, next week, thanks to Senate Republicans, even those Americans who don’t have jobs will pay the price for these partisan shenanigans.” Every bill in the 290 bills that the House has already passed will make jobs? Everyone who voted for the stimulus package said it was going to get the economy back on track. But 291 bills later, the Democrats are failing  America. How many times must the Democrats continue to prove that spending doesn’t get the nation out of this mess? 292? 300? 1000?  If 1200-page bills can’t fix it, then maybe 10,000 bills from the Democrat House can?  Maybe no bills from Congress for a year might actually achieve something.  As for answering the implied question of partisan shenanigans, just remember which party controlled Congress for the last year.

Tom has never stopped campaigning for the 5th District seat.  He slowed down for a bit but these statements reveal that he knows he’s in trouble for re-election and he’s ramping up his efforts to show how ‘important’ he is for the district.

Is it true BRG guy that you are about to be Verga’s campaign manager, as has been reported elsewhere? Does this mean that you will resign the leadership of the Charlottesville Tea Party?

If true will this blog die?

It is true that I am going to work for the Verga campaign. I will be stepping down from the leadership role in the Jefferson Area Tea Party but will stay active as time permits.

As far as this blog is concerned it will stay active, I have recruited vawatchdog to continue with posts and I may post once in awhile myself. Anything that I post will be “campaign neutral” and will be more on the general politics that affect the 5th district.

I encourage everyone that has been visiting and commenting to continue to do so. It is the interaction of those who make comments more than the posts themselves that make this such an interesting and vibrant blog.

Thanks and let me say I have enjoy this blog and appreciate your running it. There really isn’t anything else like it in the 5th district. Get your car tuned up and probably some new tires- you going to feel like a long haul trucker before this is over.

Be safe out there and god bless!

Kelley, thanks for confirming your support for the worst blog in the 5th District. It is therealfilthdistrict.com blog that should go away. It is full of name-calling gossip with little substance or facts. Here on this blog there has been name calling but most folks here have facts and information to share with others. I’ll stay here and hope others do also.

Is the VaWatchdog here the same guy, Kurt Feigel, who runs the watchdog website, is paid by the McPadden campaign, and used to run a website telling people to send rope to every congressperson threatening to hang them?

OT Speaking of Jefferson Area Tea Party, is the blog of that name the place to go to find postings of events or is there another posting board? I haven’t come to one event yet and want to start showing up and doing my part.

Kelley, The BRG has never hid his pick from the Candidates, how did you miss it? In fact his endorsement for Mr. Verga has been posted for months on this site. You seem to miss a lot of information but like Hurt, I got it. I don’t want to appear mean but you asked for it, trying to kill this blog and move folks to the gossip filled column you call therealfilthdistrict.

I’m afraid Cardinal has you on this one Kelly- no one has been more honest in his support then Bill Hay- and I’m not a Verga supporter. I don’t think Kelly is trying to kill this blog but would very much like us to live on a Hurt controlled blog. They would be much better served in closing down the real5th and starting over with a blog from you Kelly than what they have now.

did anyone see Pelosi trying to claim “kin” with the Tea Party? but then calling them astroturf in the same sentence?

i can’t wait to see her lose her Speaker position. But Perriello will probably miss her!

On the surface the current proposed individual share of the proposed $10 billion federal expenditure for unemployment benefits is only $32 per citizen. But this number is deceiving. Who many bonafide taxpayers are there who actually pay taxes? When someone can find the answer to this then the true individual cost of this proposal will be revealing.

“But Tom is not worried about the spending, he’s just pandering to 2010 election voters.”

And cutting taxes isn’t pandering to voters?

“As for answering the implied question of partisan shenanigans, just remember which party controlled Congress for the last year.”

Congress, it’s sad to admit, has been controlled for the past year by a minority (of Republicans). Hell, one man alone – Richard Shelby of Alabama – has put a blanket hold on “all executive nominations” the administration has forwarded to congress.

“Everyone who voted for the stimulus package said it was going to get the economy back on track.”

It certainly stopped the hemorrhaging. Take a look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics news release “The Employment Situation – January 2010″ date February 5 (http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf), especially Chart 2 on the first page which illustrates the numbers of jobs lost each month over the past two years. Since the slide in employment rates, which began in early 2008, peaked in January ’09, it certainly looks to me (at least by this one measure) that the economy is “getting back on track.” Yes, jobs are still being lost and therefore unemployment continues to increase, however the pace has slowed. To deny that the government’s bailout of financial institutions followed by the ARRA has had nothing to do with any of this – something, after all, turned the downward trend around at the beginning of 2009 – seems to require some supporting evidence and not just recitation of the mantra “the stimulus didn’t work.”
